Turning Point Rehab Utah |
Alternative to 12 Step Based Rehab
Turning Point Rehab Utah Centers is a non-12-step based rehab center. It’s not that we don’t support AA, CA etc. Or the Fellowship, it’s merely because we understand that addiction is deeper than ones’ relationship with his/her higher power. Don’t think, from that statement, we’re not a spiritual facility; We certainly are; we just understand addiction is a disease of the brain and is not induced by a person’s character, sanity or spiritual beliefs.

The 12-step approach was started back in the 1930’s before the medical community had any real understanding of what causes addiction, or how to treat it.
It certainly has helped many people achieve and sustain sobriety over the age. However, the 12-step approach is a peer-based community support group… basically one addict or alcoholic helping another.
Turning Point Rehab Utah It is a culture of recovery that is based on the personal opinions of those who attend meetings and does not take into account the science of addiction, the role of the mid-brain, or the overwhelming presence of co-occurring mental health issues for those who struggle with this evil disease. Licensed professionals do not tone down the meetings themselves. However, the same fellowship and support found within 12-step groups are very present within our program, made up of individuals seeking a holistic, therapeutic path to retrieval. And we encourage and patronize our clients in taking advantage of the 12-step approach, if they wish, once they complete residential treatment.
Our Approach:
Our approach to treating Dual Diagnosis substance abuse issues is based on the assumptions and principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and specifically on Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), which is a variety of CBT. CBT and REBT are evidenced-based approaches (clinically tested and supported by SAMSHA) for dealing with affective and addictive disorders. Albert Ellis, who was granted the distinction of being “the most influential psychologist” of the 20th Century by the American Psychological Association first developed REBT.
An assumption of REBT is that people act the way theyserveo because of their perceptions of reality, not by reality itself. In other words, behaviors, emotions and thoughts are driven by beliefs that people entertain about how things “should” be rather than how things actually are. Turning Point Rehab Utah REBT therapy is designed to help individuals discover underlying and often unconscious, inflexible and self-destructive beliefs about themselves, others and the macrocosm. Once these beliefs are identified, challenged and reformed, individuals are able to increasingly accept themselves and others without emotional suffering. This resulting reduction in emotional distress allows them to reduce their overall stress and anxiety levels, to improve their mood and to gain control over self-destructive behaviors such as dependency.
Theconcludingt week of a client’s stay at Turning Point Rehab Utah Centers covers “relapse prevention.” During that week we actually introduce the clients to the 12-step community so they can understand how it works and see if it will aid them in their sobriety.
Do proper research on CBT, REBT and the 12-steps to be certain what is going to be best for you and/or your loved one and don’t hesitate todrawt help and ask questions.
