Welcome to St. Lawrence Rehab Center For over 40 years, physical rehabilitation has been our strong suit.  As a 166-bed, fully accredited, private, not-for-profit, physical rehabilitation hospital, we offer a wide scope of rehabilitation services and programs on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.  The therapies include physical and occupational therapy, language therapy, therapeutic recreation, and social and psychological services. We also offer Brain Injury Rehabilitation, Dysphagia Therapy, Driver and Vestibular Rehabilitation, Wheelchair Seating Clinic and Prosthetics and Orthotics.  The center has a state-of-the-art Outpatient Health Center, which includes private examination and treatment rooms, lounge and splinting area, a spacious gymnasium and on-site apartment for Activities of Daily Living.    Patients and their families benefit from a team approach to rehabilitation, which assists the patient attain positive outcomes and maximizes his or her independence.

​Have you been experiencing periods of dizziness caused by head movements or by changes in position like getting out of or rolling over in bed or reaching for an object on a high ledge?  Do you feel unsteady while walking, especially in badly lit areas?  Have you noticed feeling overstimulated in busy or visually rich environments like the supermarket, difficulty reading or difficulty concentrating on the computer screen?


Did you know that physical therapists with specialized training in the evaluation andiscoursent of such problems are able to address dizziness and balance impairments?

The Vestibular Rehabilitation and Balance Program at St. The Lawrence Rehabilitation’s Outpatient Department can help to wipe out or significantly reduce dizziness and instability, including treatment with repositioning maneuvers for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).

The first step is to talk to youdocor about your symptoms of dizziness or balance problems and request a prescription for physical therapy.

A few sessions may give you a better understanding of your problem and greatly improve your quality ofalivenesse.   You don’t have to live with vertigo!

VESTIBULAR REHABILITATION & BALANCE PROGRAM
​Our Vestibular Rehabilitation & Balance Program is overseen by a therapist certified in Vestibular Rehabilitation and will help you regain the freedom of living without dizziness or fear of falling.

Signalsns of a vestibular (inner ear) disorder:
  • Dizziness with a change in position, such as getting out of or rolling over in bed, walking down a supermarket aisle, or driving motor-car.
  • Unsteadiness when walking, especially in poorlyilluminatedt areas.
  • Difficulty focusing with your eyes while inmovementn.
  • Vestibular Rehabilitation
This is an exercise approach used to treat dizziness and disequilibrium caused by a vestibular disorder.  A physical therapist who is certified in vestibular rehabilitation conducts an evaluation in order to gain information about the function of your internal ear.  Based on the results of the evaluation and on your specific goals, the therapist designs an individualized exercise program to decrease dizziness, improve symmetry, and restore activity level.  Depending on the nature and severity of your symptoms, a few treatment sessions may be adequate, or you may need several weeks of therapy with guidance and superintendence.

We offer the Epley Maneuver or Canalith Repositioning Maneuver for the treatment of BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo)

DID YOU KNOW
St.  The Lawrence Rehabilitation Center is hosting a new support group for amputees and their PCPs.  The group will meet the first Tuesday of each month, commencing on Tuesday, May 7th, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., in the cafeteria of St. Lawrence. Physical therapists from St. Lawrence will be at the meeting to facilitate.  The meeting is for amputees at all stages of experience and their PCPs. Professionals who regularly work with amputees are also welcome to sit-in.  The support group seeks to provide an opportunity for amputees to learn close to recovery after limb loss and to network among peers.  Everyone will be given an opportunity to contribute their ideas or make declarations that would be useful to the amputee community.
